Metablognition

Metablognition:  Can we think like we blog or do we blog like we think?

In Will Richardson's blog on Metablognition he talks about how blogging can become one of the fundamental ways we ask students to write.  I would go further and ask whether blogs imitate the way we naturally process knowledge.  When I'm working through a problem, issue, or topic I run conversations through my head where I challenge and/or support my ideas and assumptions.  When I'm having a conversation/debate about something with my colleagues we do the same thing with each other.  It seems that this is the kind of process we can expect from blogging.  Since I'm new to this I'll have to wait and see.

Since this is a photo blog I can't go without posting a picture.  In my classes we've been working on the quality of light.  This is from one of my Photo 1 students who was paying attention.

This is a shot by one of my photo 1 students.  I liked his awareness of light and shape.  It also has a tremendous sense of loneliness.  I wanted to use as a test for posting images.  It looks like it works.

Well here we go.  This is all new to me so bear with me as I stumble along.

I'm hoping this will turn into a valuable tool for my students.  We'll have to see how that works out.  I already have a few students interested and I'm looking forward to posting student work so the conversations can begin in earnest.

As my students and I travel down this path I hope those of you who are watching find our conversations useful any the students' work interesting.

Wish us luck.
